The university was chartered by the Government of Balochistan on 18th July 2002. It is a public research university that is in the capital of Balochistan.
The university started its education activities in October, 14th 2002 with three undergraduate programs in Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Business Administration.
The first batch enrolled for all of the above programs were of 90 Students in one campus. But now the university has four campuses including.
- Takattu Campus Located near to Air Port Road of Quetta.
- City Campus is in Jinnah Town.
- Chiltan Campus is at the side area and near to Chiltan Mountain, and Zhob campus.
The current Vice-chancellor of this university is Engr. Ahmed Farooq Bazai who is working for this university since 2007. He is the one who faced many ups and downs throughout the working phase in Buitems but he never stopped working hard and played an important role for the betterment of the university.
The Takattu Campus is providing the faculty of Information and communication technology, faculty of Biotechnology and informatics, faculty of arts and basic sciences, faculty of Chiltan Campus which is being developed as research forums and laborites of the faculty of Life Sciences and Informatics.
The university is affiliated with Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC), Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), and Association of Commonwealth universities, World Confederation of Businesses, American Society for Quality, United Nations Academic Impact, and International Association of Universities.

If talking about the student life so there is a bunch of activities along with the studies the university is providing for the students. There are sports festivals organize by the university each year for the students.
Most of the concerts and other educational activities are organized by the university at a highly standardized Arfa Karim Expo Center.
There is a girls hostel facility in Takattu campus is available for the female students who come from different studies to study in this university.
There is a sports complex, fitness club, library, big sports grounds available for the students. The university also organizes a picnic trip for those students who complete their undergraduate program.
